Lower Matecumbe Beaches.
There are two excellent beaches very near my house. Anne's Beach is a public beach about 2.5 miles south of me on the ocean side. It features two small parking lot's connected by a long boardwalk meandering through the mangroves and sand with trails that wander off to the water. It's a charming spot to spend an afternoon with the family or an early morning stroll. There are covered, ocean view picnic tables as well as bathroom facilities.

In addition to Anne's beach, there is another and much longer beach, Sea Oats Beach, about a mile south of my house (within walking distance and Lower Matecumbe island has a bike/walking path set well off of US1 that spans the length of the island). It's a long stretch of beach that is just off the roadway. There is plenty of room to park along the side of the road and you have a full mile of open beach that is wade-able grass flats for fishing with clean sand on the south end. Bonefish, tarpon and permit inhabit these flats and it's not unusual to see a fisherman wading or a flats skiff poling by. (Home)

The southern half mile of Sea Oats beach is blanketed in beautiful white sand, a not so common find in the Keys where most of the shallow water is dominated by abundant sea grass and coral. A very pleasant two miles from the house, this is a nice spot for Happy Hour (okay, one of my favorite places in the known universe, I admit it!) and tide is a factor, low for sitting on the sand, high for wading.
